Blog Tip: Cooliris

So you’ve got a great post but you need the perfect picture to go along with it.  There are many lessons that we as bloggers can take from the world of print, and perhaps the second most important lesson (next to typography) should be that a great image next to your article will draw the readers’ attention way better than any blurb of text.

So what do you do?  Search Flickr?  Google Images?  Well, sure, but that’s slow — you’ll probably end up clicking “next” 10 times before you find an appropriate image.

Enter Cooliris.  Cooliris is a plugin that uses a 3D engine to quickly display a continuous, interactive stream of image results.  From the image above, you can probably see that it’s possible to view more than 40 images at once, making your job of finding the perfect accoutrement to your blog post easier than ever.  You can either start a search the old-fashioned way and then click on a new thumbnail appearing when you mouse-over the image, or you can use Cooliris’ search GUI, which allows you to search most of the major image and video search sites (including YouTube — one of my favorite features).

And no, I’m not affiliated with Cooliris in any way.  I just think that if you’d give it a try, it will increase your productivity significantly.

Let me know if you find it useful!
