KidsKraft: Bead Making Kit of Death

by Josh Auriemma on May 27, 2009

My girlfriend likes to shop at dollar stores whenever she gets the chance.  When she was home in DuBois, Pennsylvania recently, she found this “kids toy.”

On the bright side, if it doesn’t help with beads, it could probably double as Baby’s First Shaving Kit.

What I found to be particularly amusing was that it’s branded “KidsKraft”… yet on the back, it says to keep away from children (maybe because of the GIANT STRAIGHT EDGE BLADE [which I may have cut myself on.])

Perhaps a more appropriate name would have been, “KidsWatchUCraft.”

Or “EmoKidsKraft”

Why would beadwork require a sharp blade?

I’ll have to let Kim take that one because for the life of me, I have no idea.

Television Spy: The kit is for making rolled-type beads out of paper or clay. The material (clay, newspaper… magazine pages, etc.) is cut into a triangle using the template and the blade, and then it’s rolled around that pointy stick in the picture. I think the blade is provided in this kit because it’s intended for use with clay, so you couldn’t exactly cut it with scissors like you could with paper. Though why they couldn’t make it a bit… oh, I don’t know, less lethal… is beyond me.
